The Hylton Performing Arts Center was brought together by George Mason University, Prince William County, the City of Manassas, and many generous donors. The facility comprises 85,000 square feet of beautiful and unique spaces, which bring the arts to the Northern Virginia community.
Downey & Scott performed pre-construction and construction phase services throughout a four-year period for this facility, which has a 1,123-seat Merchant Hall constructed as a horseshoe-styled opera house with a 100-foot stage and orchestra pit. It boasts immense rehearsal performance space with catwalks, a control room, and a vast stage lighting system with backstage support facilities. Features include an art gallery, dressing rooms, wardrobe room, scene shop, and costume shop. Total hard construction costs was $41,571,000.
