Downey & Scott provided cost estimating services for this 90,000 GSF new library in Silver Spring, MD. Total hard construction costs for the project were estimated at $35,908,000. The County Council approved $69,529,000 for the entire project, including the purchase of land, utility relocation and upgrades, actual building construction, computer and telephone systems, furniture, security, new books, and media, to name a few.
This nine (9) story urban project is intended to anchor the new urbanism movement and redevelopment of downtown Silver Spring Maryland. This project includes a new library, health & human services offices, music and art studios, community meeting/study rooms, and multi-retail spaces. This project is designed for LEED Silver compliance and includes a Green Roof at the top of the main building and the pavilion's roof.
