Brief Description:

Shaw Air Force Base is home of the US Air Force 20th Fighter Wing and US 3rd Army Headquarters. The US Air Force is planning to construct a new medical facility to replace and consolidate the existing medical clinics at this base. 

Downey & Scott provided value engineering services for this project, which is to encompass 115,881 square feet of new construction including a clinic building (113,354 SF), ambulance shelter (2,227 SF), and telephone switch enclosure (300 SF). The existing separate clinics, except the Dental Clinic and WRM Warehouse are to be demolished. The new facility will house outpatient care, basic diagnostic and support services only; no impatient care, emergency department, surgical facilities or special diagnostic modalities (such as CT scanners, MRI’s, etc.) will be included. Total budget for this project is $56,300,000.

This Value Engineering Study was conducted at the Inn at Vint Hill, Warrenton, Virginia from the 16th of January thru the 20th of January 2012. The subject of this effort was the proposed Shaw AFB Medical Clinic Replacement located at the Air Force Base near Sumter, SC.  There were 43 Value Engineering Alternatives and Design Suggestions that helped the stakeholders achieve their vision with increase quality and economy.   There was a potential for around $6,000,000 in cost saving as a result of these alternatives.
